HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A mother wants answers after an incident between a school employee and her son.

WAFF obtained video of a Huntsville City Schools employee confronting a student at Chapman Middle School.

The mother of that student says the video shows the employee putting her son in a chokehold.

"I just can't believe it,” said Marketha Hewitt.

Hewitt said she was shocked when two videos surfaced showing her seventh-grader inside his Chapman Middle School classroom. One clip shows Hewitt's son talking to a school employee while another grabs him by the arm.

"He was asked to go to see another employee at the school for a counseling session," said Hewitt. "He has a choice of whether he wants to go or not on the days that he's called and he chose not to go on that particular day. And the teacher called security to have him removed."

Huntsville City Schools has also looked at both clips. A spokesperson said the incident is under review but added both videos don't tell the entire story.

"We had a student that was engaged in behavior that was unacceptable behavior in the classroom," said district spokesperson Keith Ward. "There was inappropriate language and we know that the student was also making verbal threats to other adults that were in the school."

Hewitt said her son was charged with disorderly conduct for the incident, but the actions of the adult leave her wanting to know why that response was used and what they plan to do about it.

“You never think it's going to happen to your child and it did," said Hewitt.
We had our legal analyst Mark McDaniel take a look at the video. He said the video is not enough to bring a legal case because it doesn't tell the whole story.

WAFF has also asked the district if that school employee is still at the school while the incident is under review. We're still waiting to hear back.
