HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A child's foot was run over by a car in front of a Huntsville motel Saturday evening.
It happened before 7 p.m. at the Economy Inn on University Drive.
HEMSI was called to render aid to a 4-year-old girl. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The girl's father, Son Nguyen, said he and his family have been staying at the motel for the past week.
They were getting ready to leave for the store when the vehicle headed towards his daughter Christina.
Son tried pulling her out of the way, but after the car passed over Christina's foot, the vehicle continued on.
"I told the driver to get out of the car," Nguyen said. "She didn't want to get out of the car, and she just took off."
The father took off after the driver, eventually catching up with her on an alleyway on McDow Avenue, and waited there until police arrived.
"I get to an alley, and she tried to back up," he said.
Nguyen said following after the car that injured his daughter was just instinctive.
"Being a father, when you see somebody hurt your child... you do whatever it takes," he said.
Police have detained the driver for questioning; no arrests have been announced at this time.
