HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama A&M University officials confirmed Saturday that three of their students were among the seven victims in an early Saturday morning shooting in Panama City Beach, Florida.

Alabama A&M University administrative and law enforcement officials said in a written statement that three of the victims, all female, are AAMU students.

Kearria Freed, 20, was hospitalized in critical condition; 20-year-old Kelli Regina Curry is listed in stable condition; and 19-year-old Annesia Powell was undergoing surgery.

The shooter, 22-year-old David Jamichael Daniels of Mobile, was arrested by the Panama City Beach Sheriff's Office.

University officials stressed he suspect is not an AAMU student.

Bay County, Florida officials said the suspect was accompanied by two others, and was out on bond from Mobile for drug possession.

AAMU's Lieutenant William Schumake noted that a Bay County investigator stated that the AAMU students were “innocent victims in the wrong place when an altercation broke out resulting in shots being fired.”

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

The University is mobilizing its counseling services for students or personnel who might be traumatized by the incident and has dispatched campus personnel to Mobile.

Meanwhile, the campus is issuing a call for prayers for the victims' speedy recovery.
