Parents in custody after child found wandering in Swearengin

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Two people are in custody after their child was found wandering in the Swearengin community Saturday.

The 2-year-old child walked to a home on Swearengin Road around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Residents at the home did not recognize the child and called 911.

A search of the area soon followed. Approximately three hours later, deputies made contact with the child's parents at their home, and arrested the couple.

John and Sherry Owens were charged with endangering the welfare of a child and taken to the Marshall County Jail.

The child has been placed in the temporary custody of the Department of Human Resources.

An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
