ALABAMA (WAFF) - Alabama Department of Transportation Director John Cooper has confirmed that he has pulled funding for several north Alabama road projects in Senator Holtzclaw's district.

Cooper said the decision was made by him and not by the Governor but that the Governor is aware of his decision.

He said the billboard Holtzclaw put up was over the top, and that based on the billboard, “It is clear he [Holtzclaw] would be uncomfortable with large sums of tax money being spent in his district.”

He said that while the move by him is unusual to happen, “The billboard was over the top and went too far.”

Roughly $100 million in funding has been cut to projects in the area.

Highway 72 and Jeff Road in Madison and Limestone Counties are impacted as are others.
