LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The Limestone County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a woman whose body was found overnight.
Investigators say a family driving down Zion Church Lane discovered the body lying near the roadside.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the victim is 61-year-old Christine Garth, from Belle Mina. She lived one mile from the scene.
Investigators say the woman's daughter reported Christine was on the phone with another person asking for a ride about an hour before her body was found.
Sheriff Mike Blakely said Garth's body was nude from the waist up with a coat nearby when found.
The cause of death has not been determined. The sheriff said there was no obvious signs of trauma or assault at the scene.
Investigators transported the body to the Huntsville forensics lab for an autopsy. They are now waiting for preliminary results; a full report could take longer to complete.
Sheriff Blakely said his office is retracting Garth's steps in hopes of finding the person they believe killed her. Investigators spent Tuesday canvassing the area and knocking doors of people who lived near where the body was discovered.
Based on phone records, one person is being interviewed, and investigators are working to establish if anyone else was involved.
"This person at this time says he didn't pick her up, but we are still looking into that," Blakely said.
