Father of Discovery School shooter granted early probation termination

A Madison County judge has granted Iqbal Memon's request for an early probation termination. Memon is the father of Discovery Middle School shooter Hammad Memon.

Iqbal Memon requested an early termination of his probation so that he could take a job at the American Hospital in Dubai. Memon says his medical practice in North Alabama is failing financially.

Memon has served roughly half of his probation after pleading guilty to attempted hindering prosecution. Memon and his wife, Safia, tried to get their son, Hammad, out of the country before his murder trial. Hammad Memon is serving 30 years in prison for the death of Todd Brown. Hammad Memon shot and killed Brown during a class change in 2010.

Madison County Circuit Judge requested an opinion from the Coordinator of County Probation before coming to a decision. The Director of the Probation Department says Memon has paid all monies owed in connection with this case. The director says Memon's probation officer would not request early termination of probation for Memon, but would not oppose a motion filed by Memon's attorney.

Memon's probation will officially end Friday, February 13, 2015.
