ALABAMA (WAFF) - University of Alabama defensive lineman Dee Liner has been released from the University of Alabama team.

He tweeted Monday morning and said: "Officially been released from UofA!! Wanna thank them for everything they have done for me and the opportunity they gave me!"

He also said, "Thanks Coach Saban and his staff for everything! But it's time for me to start a new Journey!"

Liner was recruited from Muscle Shoals High School to play for Alabama two years ago.

Liner was a five-star defensive lineman and one of the most highly recruited football players to come out of north Alabama in recent years.

He was rated as one of the top five prospects in the nation, but once he arrived on the Capstone, things never really materialized.

Where Liner might end up next remains an unanswered question. However, if he transfers to another D-1 school, he will have to sit out a year. If he transfers to an FCS school, he can play right away.
