MOBILE, AL (WAFF) -

Coast Guard officials said Monday they have suspended the search for a missing fisherman, 70 miles south of Dauphin Island.

Response crews covered more than 650 square miles in the search for Carlos Ramirez Regaldo, after receiving a report from crew members of the fishing vessel "Scatterbrain" that the 33-year-old fell overboard from the vessel Sunday night.

Participating in the search were Coast Guard crews and assets from the cutter Cobia, Air Station New Orleans, Aviation Training Center Mobile, and Sector Mobile.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Regaldo,” said Trip Rizzo of Coast Guard Sector Mobile. “The men and women of the Coast Guard are deeply committed to the preservation of life at sea and it's always a bitter disappointment to us when we're unable to bring someone home safely."
