MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama's top utility regulators are blasting the Obama Administration, accusing it of killing jobs and sabotaging the economy.

Tuesday, the members of the state Public Service Commission sent President Obama a letter (PDF) saying that Environmental Protection Agency regulations supported by "radical environmentalists" are destroying Alabama's coal industry.

In June, the EPA unveiled a new interpretation of the Clean Air Act meant to fight global warming.

Those regulations have hit Alabama coal burning power plants hard.

In their letter, the PSC Commissioners say the people of Alabama are "suffering from the devastating effects." of that change.

It goes on to accuse the president of lying to the American people.

The Public Service Commission says it will send copies of this letter to Alabama's lawmakers in Washington, Governor Robert Bentley, and the Speaker of the Alabama House and Senate Majority leader.
