The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency makes debut

Good morning!

Here's what we're working on in the WAFF Newsroom:

With the new year comes new changes and one of those changes involves 12 different State agencies including the Department of Homeland Security and Alabama Bureau of Investigation being combined into one group.

That group is now known as the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.  Some changes are already in effect. Marine police are patrolling the highways during the winter months.

This is potentially good news for tax payers, but bad news for speeders, because more officers will be on patrol.  Also, State Troopers say their response time to accidents will be faster, and the roads will safer.

We'll have much more on this beginning at 5AM.

Today the doors to the new Athens Public Library will officially open to the public.

It's located in the former Kroger building on South Jefferson Street. The 40,000 square foot facility will be open on limited hours throughout the remainder of the year.

We have a list of those limited hours posted for you online at
