FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - A Florence man's run from police ended Tuesday with his capture in a nearby city.
Police caught up with Gregory Hayes in Muscle Shoals around 10 a.m., one day after they said he ran away from an arresting officer.
Officials say a patrol officer spotted Hayes in east Florence Monday and recognized him as having a warrant out for his arrest.
Investigators say Hayes ran off and at one pointed a gun at the officer chasing him.
Florence police credit the working relationship they have with surrounding police departments and other agencies to help locate both men and women who decide to flee from officers.
Police say Monday's incident is one of the many responsibilities given to patrol officers.
"Every day, officers check in, they look over the warrants that have been issued the day before, they look at pictures," said Cliff Billingsley with the Florence Police Department. "We try to keep an eye on who lives where in the city, where crimes are being committed. Our officer made a great call in seeing him, recognizing him and checking out with him, and we're also lucky nobody was injured."
Hayes has since been transferred to the Lauderdale County Detention Center.
Charges for attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and menacing are pending.
