HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville police, paramedics and fire & rescue crews are at the scene of a fatal two-car collision.
It happened before 2:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Winchester and Blue Spring Road.
One person was in each vehicle. HEMSI officials confirmed one person was killed; the other person suffered critical injuries. That person's condition remained stable as of Thursday night.
Police closed all lanes of Winchester Road as they worked to clear the scene. The road was re-opened to traffic around 4:30 p.m.
Officers said a Mitsubishi Gallant heading westbound collided head-on with an eastbound Lexus.
They said the driver of the Mitsubishi, Christopher Patton, was killed on impact. The driver of the Lexus was taken to the hospital with leg injuries that are considered not life-threatening.
Police said charges are not expected to be filed in the case.
