HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - This early cold snap we are experiencing has prompted most of us to turn on our heating units for the first time. It may have caught you before you could have your heating unit checked out for the winter.
With temperatures dipping into the 20's and teens in some cases, the excess use could be putting a strain on your heating systems. The last thing you need is for your unit to malfunction or quit working leaving you with no heat when it's frigid outside.
The best way to make sure your unit is always working properly is to have it serviced regularly by a reputable technician.
"You definitely want to make sure you are prepared so you don't find yourself in a crisis situation," said Michele Mason with the Better Business Bureau. "We encourage people to look now for a trustworthy contractor; have them come out and do a full evaluation of your system."
That evaluation should include a written estimate of either the routine maintenance or any repairs or work that needs to be done. If you have to have your unit replaced, be sure to get warranty information, in writing for not only the parts, but the labor as well.
And, as we always remind you, make sure you check the contractor or company out with the BBB. Also make sure they are properly licensed through The Alabama Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Board.
Looks like it could be a long winter.
