Kitchen Cops: restaurant a low performer for third straight time

LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - LuVici's in Athens scored a 74 with the Limestone County Health Department. LuVici's lost points because, according to the inspector, cooked hamburgers were 15 degrees below the temperature required to prevent bacterial growth in hot-holding food, and meatloaf was ten degrees below temperature.

The inspector also reported cold roast beef wasn't cold enough as it was nine degrees above temperature. Also, the inspector reported water at the hand sinks was below the required 100 degree temperature. That was a ten point violation. LuVici's owner, Jerry Sandlin, said they have fixed the water problem and look forward to their next inspection.

The Fiesta Mexicana in Athens remains on the health department reinspection schedule for the third straight inspection, scoring a 79 this time. They scored an 84 during each of their previous two inspections. The inspector reported chicken was held ten degrees below the required hot-holding temperature, there was mold on a gourmet ice nozzle, and that workers were using a damaged fryer basket.

Those restaurants need to score an 85 or higher to get off of the health department reinspection schedule and off of the Kitchen Cops low performers list. Five previous low performers that did just that.

The Casa Blanca on Browns Ferry Road in Madison jumped seven points during their reinspection, scoring a 90.

Southern Fixin' Steakhouse and Buffet in Ardmore scored a 91 during their reinspection, 19 points better than last time.

The Shoney's in Athens rose from a 78 last time to an 87 during their reinspection.

Nori Japan at Parkway Place Mall in Huntsville scored a 93 during their reinspection after scoring an 80 the time before.

The Clements Mini Mart in Athens made a ten point improvement, scoring a 93.

Workers at the Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Decatur scored a perfect 100 with the Morgan County health department, making them a Kitchen Cops High Performer for the second time
