LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The Lawrence County coroner confirmed a man drowned on Friday afternoon.
The drowning happened on private property off of County Road 249. Barry Harris was found probably a quarter mile down a driveway in a small pond.
Family members found Harris's body floating in a small pond behind their neighbor's house.
The body of water is on private property.
According to the coroner, foul play is not suspected.
Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said the family is well-known throughout the county.
"They're a fine family," Mitchell said. "Things happen to everybody and that's kinda where we are with this."
The sheriff has been here for the last three hours and says it will still be a while before the scene is clear.
The coroner is expected to give a briefing on the death on Friday afternoon. WAFF 48 News will update you online and on WAFF 48 News Now at 4 p.m.
