Suspicious package 'not a threat' at BP Chemical in Decatur

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - A package was found on an abandoned rail car at BP Chemical in Decatur around 7:30 a.m., according to the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency.

The bomb squad from Huntsville arrived to investigate at 9 a.m.

The plant was not evacuated, but non-mission critical administration were allowed to go home if they chose to do so.

Decatur City Schools were notified of the situation and the EMA said there was no need to evacuate any city schools.

Morgan County Emergency Management Agency confirmed the suspicious package was not a threat. All daily operations proceeded as normal.
