Body of drowning victim recovered in Colbert Co.

COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Authorities in Colbert County confirmed they found the body of a drowning victim Sunday.

Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley said late Sunday night the man was identified as Eric Willingham.

Officials with the Alabama Marine Police said the Willingham went missing while swimming in the creek with his wife and child.

Colbert County EMA Director Mike Melton said a 911 call was received about a possible drowning Sunday morning. Boats were put in the water to search for the victim in the Bear Creek Bridge area off of Highway 72.

By 2 p.m., officials with the Colbert County Emergency Management Agency said crews had been removed from the area following the discovery of Willingham's body.

Utley said all witness statements matched to rule Willingham's death a drowning.
