HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The woman accused in a deadly hit and run Sunday night is now free on bond.
Madison County jail officials confirm 31 year old LaTonya Haley was released on a $60,000 bond just before 10:30 Tuesday night.
Haley faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide. Police said she ran into Weixi Zhang and his two sisters while the family walked home from their family business late Sunday night. Weixi died as a result of his injuries. His two sisters were released from Huntsville Hospital Monday after receiving treatment.
On Tuesday, a small memorial to the family started to grow outside the restaurant.
Authorities towed away the vehicle they believe Haley was in at the time of the accident Monday afternoon. The Chevrolet SUV has damage to the passenger side mirror.
A fund has been set up to assist the Zhang family with their expenses and needs. Go to any Redstone Federal Credit Union branch and ask to contribute to the Zhang Family Fund. A family representative said this is the only official fund set up.
Haley's boss, Cardell Lightford the owner of Best Wings, said the entire situation is devastating.
"Two families are devastated by the tragedy. One, also in the restaurant industry, is grieving the loss of a small child," said Lightford. "The woman accused in this unfortunate incident worked at my restaurant. I, along with my team, offer condolences to the grieving family. It's our prayer God comforts them during this time and provides peace as both families work through the investigation."
