FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - Florence police are responding to a bank robbery.

It happened just after 11:30 a.m. on Monday at Alabama Central Credit Union.

Police said a robber wearing a white hoodie entered the bank with two visible handguns, demanding money. They said he left in a red SUV but ditched the SUV about three blocks away.

It is unclear if he left there on foot or had another ride. Police say they believe the SUV is connected to a report taken earlier this morning on a stolen car from the Cherry Hill Homes Development.

A photo of the robber was not immediately available.

Due to the proximity to the school, Florence High School and Florence Freshman Center were on lockdown, according to superintendent Dr. Janet Womack. However, students and staff were still able to move freely in schools and no classes were disrupted.

School officials were notified of the situation, monitored it closely through the police department, and had extra enforcements on all entryways.
