BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police are investigating six killings over the past five days. In the latest death early Tuesday, a man lost his life in a hail of gunfire outside a home in the Ensley area.
Police say the most recent killing happened just before 1:15 a.m. Tuesday. Police said they received a flood of emergency calls about the shooting. Al.com reports (http://bit.ly/Z5KRRL) that the city's gunfire detection system - ShotSpotter - also alerted them to the trouble in the area. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man in his 30s dead in front of an SUV, its window shattered by bullets.
Earlier, Birmingham police identified a woman found stabbed to death inside her home Sunday evening as Linda Allbritton, who was in her 70s.
