Decatur man arrested, charged with stabbing neighbor

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - At approximately 1:05 a.m. on Friday, Decatur Police and Fire responded to a stabbing in the 400 block of 3rd Avenue. 

Micheal Lyn Smith was found suffering from a knife wound to the abdomen.

Smith was transported to the hospital in critical condition where he underwent surgery.

Smith is now out of the hospital and does not have any internal injuries.  

Decatur police say that that Smith and George Hollis Cantrell lived next to each other, and got into a fight in between their houses resulting in one man stabbing the other. 

Cantrell was arrested and charged with second degree assault public intoxication. 

He will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a total of a $3000 bond.
