HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A church is helping to build a positive relationship between police and the community.

On Wednesday evening, a representative from Huntsville police talked to the youth and parents at Fellowship of Faith.

The officer talked to them about what to do when they're stopped or confronted by police.

He says they should stay calm and do what the officer asks.

Church officials say this message is important to help prevent altercations between police and citizens.

Lionel Locke of Fellowship of Faith said, "We want to reinforce what their responsibilities are as citizens so like i said they can grow up and minimize this whole conflict of police versus citizens misunderstandings. We just want to minimize that all together."

The officer reminded the group that police are your friends, and not somebody to be afraid of.
