JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Freedom From Religion Foundation wants the Jackson County Commission to halt plans to place the Ten Commandments at the county courthouse.

Shortly after announcing plans to seek community input on placing historical documents at the courthouse, the county commission chairman received a letter from the Freedom From Religion organization requesting the commission not place the Ten Commandments on county property.

The group maintains it's a violation of church and state.

Commissioner Tim Guffey is seeking to have the Ten Commandments placed at the courthouse along with the Constitution and Declaration of Independence.

Chairman Hodges said they're seeking community input and everything is being considered.

Hodges said they're in the process of forming that seven member committee and a decision is still at least two months away.
