COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

After retiring from the National Football League, DeVonte Holloman is returning to the Gamecocks.

Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward confirmed following Tuesday's practice that Holloman will be joining the South Carolina coaching staff.

"He'll do what Seth (Strickland) is doing in helping in the video department," Ward said. "In the spring, hopefully he'll get into grad school and be a G.A."

Holloman was advised by doctors to retire from football after suffering a severe neck injury. The sixth-round draft pick for the Dallas Cowboys in the 2013 NFL Draft. As a rookie linebacker, he played in nine games and totaled 26 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Holloman had a career high 11 tackles in the Cowboys' 24-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.
