TN motorcyclist flown to Huntsville after Decatur crash

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

A Tennessee man was flown to Huntsville Hospital on Monday, following a crash on Highway 31 in Decatur.

It happened just before 4 p.m. near the median at Lenwood Road.

Decatur police said 56-year-old Douglas Sanders of Bunker Hill TN was attempting to turn south onto the highway when his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle traveling southbound.

Sanders was transported to Huntsville Hospital via MedFlight for treatment. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

    Our news gathering partner at the Decatur Times Daily reports the city of Sheffield in Colbert County is dealing with a staffing shortage in their fire department.  Fire Chief Dewey King, who is also the city's public safety director, says that low wages are contributing to a high turnover rate.
