HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police is celebrating the opening of its new precinct.

A ribbon cutting and open house were held Monday afternoon for the new North Public Safety Complex.

The new facility is located on North Memorial Parkway, a site once owned by Alabama A&M University.

About 100 officers, investigators and staff will be stationed at the precinct.

Officials say it'll be a great asset to the community.

"We're more easily visible out where we are on the Parkway," said North Precinct Commander, Captain Juan Joyner. "It's a lot easier for people to find us and see us. And we'll have a working relationship with Alabama A&M since they donated the property for this building."

The facility includes a squad room and a meeting room for Community Watch and citizens' public safety activities.

This precinct replaces the building located on Mastin Lake Road.
