Stars fall to Mobile Sunday

The Mobile BayBears defeated the Huntsville Stars Sunday night thanks to a former Stars outfielder delivering the game winning hit.  Mitch Haniger gave the BayBears a 5-4 win in eleven innings on his game winning rbi single.

With the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the eleventh, Haniger singled into left center scoring Aregenis Diaz from second base.  It was a bang-bang play at home as the Stars catcher Robinson Diaz was called for blocking home plate, giving the BayBears the win.

Haniger had a big day against his former club.  Haniger went 3-4 with 3 rbi’s and two doubles.

Haniger gave Mobile a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly.  Then in the bottom of the third he added an rbi double down the left field line making it 3-0.

Hector Gimenez launched a two-run homer off the right center field scoreboard in the top of the fourth putting the Stars on the scoreboard.  The lead was cut to 3-2.

Josh Prince came through with a clutch hit for the Stars in the top of the seventh.  With two outs, Prince lined a two-run single to left center giving the Stars a 4-3 lead.

Mobile tied the game in the eighth.  Ryan Court led off with a solo homerun against Manny Barreda.  Court’s homerun just stayed fair down the right field line.

The Stars had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth with nobody out, but couldn’t score.

Tommy Toledo(4-3) took the loss for the Stars out of the bullpen.

Kaleb Fleck(7-3) earned the win out of the bullpen for the BayBears.

The Stars(29-34,75-58) trail the Mobile BayBears(35-26,77-53) 2-1 in their series.  The series resumes Monday.
