Sessions says possible Senate control could give AL key roles

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama could be on the verge of some major new clout in Washington, specifically in the U.S. Senate.

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, speaking in Athens on Thursday, said that if Republicans pick up six more senate seats in this fall's elections, they'll take control of the Senate.

Sessions said that sets up Alabama up in key leadership roles.

"Sen. Shelby will be chair of the Banking Committee," Sessions said. "I may be chair of the Budget committee It's a big election, experts say its 50-50 who might have a majority in the senate next year."

Senator Sessions is unopposed as he seeks a fourth term.
