HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - We are in the heat of the summer and it's important to stay safe and hydrated.

Meteorologist David Ernst says dangerous heat will continue to build in the Valley over the next few days.

There won't be many storms, which means there won't be relief from the heat aside from the comfort of air conditioning indoors.

The heat index will top to 100, so if you have to be outside, drink plenty of fluids. It's a good idea to hydrate the night before a strenuous outdoor event.

With several outdoor activities coming up this weekend, like the Mayor's Bicycle Ride and the Brews and BBQ Festival, you'll want to have plenty of water on hand.

If you're a runner, running in the early morning or evening is advised to avoid the peak of the extreme temperatures.

Ernst says the high heat should break next week and rain chances will increase.

During one of the hottest weeks of the summer, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), says to stay informed about the weather, spend time indoors, and drink plenty of water.

WAFF will work to keep you informed, so tune in to our newscasts and follow WAFF.com for weather updates.
