SELMA, AL (WSFA) -

The Selma Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a shooting that occurred on Monday.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Michael Blevins on Tuesday at 10:50 a.m. in the 2100 block of L.L. Anderson Avenue, and charged him with first degree assault.

The case started when officers responded to a call at 8:49 p.m. on Monday in the 2100 block of L.L. Anderson Avenue, in reference to a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were advised that the 34-year-old victim had been shot and fled the scene in a gold vehicle. Officers later received a call from the victim, at which point he stated he was on his way to the hospital when he crashed his vehicle on Sam Mosley Drive.

Officers and medical personnel arrived at the scene of the accident, and transported the victim to the Vaughn Regional Medical Center. The victim was later airlifted to a medical facility in Tuscaloosa to receive treatment for gunshot wounds to his chest and right arm.

While being transported to Vaughn Regional Medical Center, the victim told officers that Blevins had been the person who shot him.

After conducting an investigation, Detectives believe that the shooting was a result of a physical altercation between the victim and his girlfriend, which is Blevins' mother.

Blevins was transported to the Dallas County Jail where he is being held on a bond set at $100,000.
