Huntsville, AL-The Huntsville Stars scored eight unanswered runs Sunday to comeback and beat the Jackson Generals 8-6 at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.
With the Stars trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning and with the bases loaded, Nick Ramirez hit a grand slam to right center against Mayckol Guaipe(1-3) giving the Stars an 8-6 lead.
The Stars came all the way back from a six run deficit earlier in the game.
The Generals took a 6-0 lead against Huntsville starter Drew Gagnon in the top of the third inning.
Jackson hit three homeruns in the third, including back to back homers by Jordy Lara and Dario Pizzano.
Tyler Smith started the homerun derby with a two-run homer his first Double-A homerun against Gagnon giving the Generals a 2-0 lead.
Lara hit a three run bomb to left field and Pizzano hit a homer to right giving the Generals a 6-0 cushion.
Gagnon, ended up taking a no decision after pitching five innings and allowing seven hits on six runs(five earned).
The Stars started to chip away little by little at the six run deficit.
In the bottom of the third, Josh Fellhauer lined an rbi double to right center getting the Stars on the scoreboard.
Yadiel Rivera also added a groundout to the shortstop cutting the Jackson lead to 6-2.
Hector Gimenez led off the fourth with a solo homerun to left field. It was Gimenez's fourth homerun of the season and his second in as many days.
In the bottom of the seventh, Josh Prince recorded an rbi single scoring Ramirez making it 6-4.
The Stars got four scoreless innings out of the bullpen from Eric Marzec, Kevin Shackelford(2-3) and David Goforth.
Shackelford earned the win out of the bullpen while Goforth collected his Southern League best twenty fifth save of the season.
The Stars ended their four game losing streak with the win and Jackson dropped their fourth straight with the loss.
The Stars(26-30,72-54) lead Jackson(25-31,56-69) 1-0 in their five game series. The series continues Monday night with RHP Jacob Barnes(2-5, 4.61) on the mound for Huntsville.
