ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The city of Albertville could get their own farmer's market later in the year. That decision is expected to be made Monday when the city council meets.

City officials are hoping to get this thing off the ground, and they're starting by getting a committee appointed.

The city council will look at appointing five people to the board. Those people will select a director. The new board will then develop and oversee the rules and regulations of the farmers market.

Council President Nathan Broadhurst said it will also be the board's obligation to determine if foods sold will only be home grown or also include resellers. Either way, Broadhurst said they would really like to get it open as soon as possible.

“That gives the city the benefit of kind of going through a trial run with it,” said Broadhurst. “Seeing what the response is going to be from the community, and it gives us the opportunity to evaluate, you know, what we've put in place and there might be the need to make some tweaks as we go into the second season in the spring next year.”

The city council is expected to address the issue when they meet Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.
