JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

State troopers say that two lanes have re-opened on I-65 northbound after a tanker fire.

Troopers re-opened I-65 around 6 p.m. At 9:20 p.m., they confirmed that the two left lanes had been re-opened.

The far right lane on I-65 northbound will remain closed until further notice to make repairs.

The fire happened at the 279 mile marker near Kimberly in northern Jefferson County around 3:30 p.m.

Around 5:30 p.m., it appeared that the main blaze was extinguished and crews are still on scene.

For several hours, troopers detoured traffic off of I-65 northbound at exit 275, which is between Gardendale and Morris.

Authorities say the driver was able to get to safety and is OK.
