HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Communities across the country are watching unrest unfolding in Ferguson, Missouri with bated breath.

The Associated Press reports that Missouri State Highway Patrol will take over the supervision of security in the St. Louis suburb that's been the scene of violent protests since a police officer fatally shot an unarmed black teenager.

A Huntsville police officer, no longer on active duty, said he thinks the police department has a good relationship with the community, and that would prevent a situation like the one in Ferguson from happening in the Rocket City.

“Huntsville has a real good relationship with the community, I think as the police department goes,” Bill Davis said. “Of course, there's some who, no matter what, don't like the police and don't like the police presence - but I believe Huntsville has a pretty good relationship with the community.”

Davis said he would not comment on how the Ferguson police are responding to the protests, but he did say some of the protesters were blatantly breaking the law by burning buildings and looting.

“It shouldn't happen and there’s no reason for it,” Davis said. “It’s opportunistic people taking this chance to try and get away with stuff and it’s breaking the law.”

Davis is Huntsville Lodge president of the Fraternal Order of Police and said the group was asking for a fair and impartial review of the shooting of Mike Brown in Missouri to try and determine exactly what happened.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office said they believed they have a solid relationship with their community as well.
