GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A man is now charged with shooting into a man's driver's-side window while the pair were both driving in downtown Guntersville.

Police believe it was sparked by an ongoing dispute, but the shooter faces very serious charges. Police say the bullet missed the intended victim's head by probably no more than an inch.

Christopher Hollis Havis, 33, of Guntersville, is now in the county jail on charges of attempted murder.

The incident happened around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning along Blount Avenue, just outside of the Ace Hardware Store.

Police said Havis fired into the other man's vehicle while they were both traveling north in town.

Chief Jim Peterson said the bullet came through the window and went through the passenger's headrest.

The victim then continued down Blount Avenue, seeking safety by pulling into the police department - with the suspect following right behind.

"We had an investigator that just happened to be entering the parking lot immediately behind them and he was able to take control of the situation at that point," said Chief Peterson. "He took what ended up being the shooter into custody. The victim was still upset at this point and actually left the police department. We did locate him down the road."

Havis is being held on $25,000 bond.
