FORT GORDON, GA (WFXG) -

A team from Fort Rucker, Ala. is in Augusta investigating the death of a Fort Gordon soldier, officials at Fort Gordon said.

The body of 27-year-old Anthony Thomas Scardino was found on post Friday night after he went missing during land navigation training in the post's training area, according to a news release.

A Centralized Accident Investigation team form the U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center, which is headquartered at Fort Rucker, arrived Sunday, said J.C. Matthews, public affairs officer for Fort Gordon. This is a standard procedure.

The Armed Forces Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Sunday, Matthews said. The results are pending.
