HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Animal Services is trying to make it easier for people to adopt shelter dogs and cats.

Every Tuesday, the shelter will remain open until 7 p.m.

Officials said this will give people a chance to come to the shelter after work or after dinner. They said it's important to find these animals a loving home.

"We need people from the community to come here and adopt out animals every single day," said Karen Buchan. "We had a great outpouring of people from the community that came and helped us out during our recent situation. We need them to continue coming to us. We have dogs and cats come into our shelter every single day."

Buchan referred to an incident in July, in which a respiratory virus threatened the lives of many dogs at the facility. Workers rushed to find foster or permanent homes as officials worked to sterilize the facility.
