HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A hiring event focused on helping veterans find work is happening in Huntsville this week.

The Space and Missile Defense Symposium partnered with the American Freedom Foundation to create Warriors to the Workforce.

The event is for veterans like Chris Thomas. He left the Army in June and came to Huntsville to find a job. He has experience in avionics, weapon repair, information technology, and recruitment.

Thomas said he was pleased to see the variety of booths set up at today's event.

"As a veteran this is important to me because it targets specifically people that are leaving the Army, that have difficulty with the transition and finding employment," said Thomas.

Tomorrow is the last day for the free hiring event.

It's open to veterans, military service members and their spouses and is being held at the Von Braun Center - Ballroom Number 5.

SourceAmerica and Still Serving Veterans are helping sponsor the event.
