MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Madison County School Board has finalized the purchase of land for the new Monrovia High School.

The school board purchased 60 acres of land at the corner of Pine Grove Road and Wall Triana Highway. It is located across from Legacy Elementary School.

In 2011, the board approved building a new high school to alleviate the overcrowded schools in the area, especially Sparkman High.

The school will cost about $46 million and hold 1,600 students.

Construction on the school is expected to start early next year.

The school is scheduled to open in 2017.
