ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Athens police officers arrested a man accused of slashing a teenager in the chest with a box cutter.

It happened Saturday around 6:30 p.m. on the 1400 block of North Houston Street. Investigators found a 16-year-old boy with a wound to the chest. The victim and several witnesses told officers they had been in an argument with several people down the street over a previous police call over harassment.

They told officers Greg Kelly and another person drove up, and that Kelly jumped out of the car swinging a box cutter and injured the teen. Kelly then fled the scene before officers arrived.

Officers located Kelly on Monday morning and arrested him. He was charged with second-degree assault and transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
