Have your kids ever wanted to try one of those over-the-top obstacle course-style competitions like the ones they see on TV? They'll have their chance this weekend.

The first-ever Kids Champion Challenge is scheduled for Saturday at 1405 Hewatt Road in Lilburn. The highlight of the open competition is a 10-foot tall "warped wall" situated at the end of a winding course.

Parents can register their children for the event here while spaces last. The founder of the event is Alex Trouteaud. He and his team started Dynamic Karate USA five years ago, and today it is one of the largest martial arts schools in Gwinnett County. The idea behind the challenge, he said, is to give kids a taste of what they see on TV.

"They're inundated with extreme examples of what play looks like," Trouteaud said. "And our thought was instead of trying to fight that, to roll with it and try to give them something extreme and challenging to do to get them outside and having fun."

The event opens at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, and closes at 4 p.m. Participants may arrive at any time during this window and should expect to attend for about one hour. Participation is $15 per child, which includes a finisher's T-shirt.
