WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Plantation Pointe, a residential community, saw flooding Saturday night worse than any Hurricane that has hit southeastern North Carolina.

The flood damaged many vehicles in the area. Most cars saw flooding reach the top of their windshields. When residents described the damages to their insurances companies, they were told their cars were totaled.

"It's not going to be cheap," said Kenneth Norris, a resident of Plantation Pointe. "Insurance won't cover it all, and both cars are going are needed in the family. So, somehow both cars need to be replaced."

Norris lost two cars in the flood, and now faces damages that total near $25,000.

Further into the community other residents are dealing with ruined homes.

"We've got water inside our unit, we've got water inside #451, and they are gutting the whole place," said home owner Robert Faulk.  "I mean flooring everything is coming out.  There's damage everywhere down here."

Michael Trevisan of SERVPRO of Pender County had vans out trying to help clean up the mess.

"Some of the units have had 6 to 8 inches of water," explained Tervisan.  "So we've had to take some of the dry wall, and some of the baseboards out in order to prevent molding."

According to SERVEPRO, it only takes 48 to 72 hours for soggy items to form mold, but not every home was dealing with mold.  Some were mourning the loss of her prized possessions.

"All the things of her children are very important to her," described her friend.  "Everything is soaking wet and damaged.  They are irreplaceable."

One thing that was replaceable was the dirt lost from the sinkhole.

Utility inc. is responsible for Plantation Pointe's sewer and water problems. They were out Sunday morning trying to fill in the massive hole.

They said their main concern was stabilizing the pipe, because it is their main connection to the sewer and water station located feet behind sink hole.
