Huntsville police are investigating a death on the 100 Block of Mason Court.

Police were called to Mason Court around 9:30 a.m. Sunday where investigators found a male victim unresponsive in his bed.

HEMSI responded and took him to Huntsville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Madison County Coroner Craig Whisenant confirmed Sunday afternoon that the victim was 4 years old.

When HPD arrived, HEMSI was working with the unresponsive child.

The child had just gone to lie down a short time earlier. The step-father checked on him and noticed that something was wrong.

He picked the child up and immediately started CPR. He continued this until help arrived.

The initial assessment led officials to believe that this was an unfortunate tragedy but that no foul play is suspected.

However, as with any death investigation, they will draw conclusion once any and all evidence is processed, submitted and the investigation is completed.

"All I can do is pray about it because he was a good kid," said family friend Tamara Grays. "It was an accident; it probably didn't really mean to happen."

The name of the victim has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
