A little rain isn't going to stop the Mainstreet Music Festival that kicked off Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the city of Albertville. The two day event brings fun for the entire family with live music and portions of downtown blocked off for many activities.

They're in their fifth year, and they keep growing. In 2013 there were around 60 to 70 vendors. In 2014, that number is close to 100.

Main Street was blocked off Thursday evening around 6 p.m. to begin the process of setting up the stage, allowing the vendors to begin setting up, and festival workers to what they need. That was much the scene for most of the day Friday for the event that kicked off with a kids inflatable water park and an exotic animal exhibit.

Bands began playing and the headline Friday night will be the Belemy Brothers at 8 p.m. It all starts again Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and goes throughout the day with The Gin Blossoms and Jo Dee Messina playing. It's something the city puts on and the residents seem to very much enjoy it.

“It's just a quality of life matter,” said event organizer Melody Whitten. “We like to be able to have something fun and great for our citizens and our community to enjoy, but it's also a tourism event. I've talked to the Quality Inn in town this week and they are completely full tonight.”

Best part, it's all free, but they will have donation barrels set out if you would like to contribute because they're trying to keep it free.
