MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A high speed chase took Morgan County deputies on a wild and harrowing ride Thursday.

The trail went from Highway 36 in Cotaco, north on 65 to Priceville, before turning around and going back southbound, eventually ending off Exit 325 on Thompson Road in Hartselle.

Investigators said the chase reached speeds over 130 miles per hour. It ended when the car drove off the road, through a fence and behind a business.

The driver got out and ran about 100 yards into the woods before troopers and deputies caught up with him.

One Morgan County deputy's car suffered minor damage.

It is unclear why the driver ran off.

His name hasn't been released yet, but officials said he will face a slew of charges, including speeding and attempting to elude police.
