HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville City Schools leaders are closing in on a deal to sell vacant Stone Middle School.

The school board was expected to talk about the purchase of the campus at Thursday's board meeting. However, school officials said the item was pulled from the agenda so they can continue ironing out details between the school and the intended purchaser.

It’s unclear who wants to purchase Stone Middle School or what would go there.

Huntsville City Schools spokesperson Keith Ward said the district and the purchaser are still trying to work out the details.

Ward did not release what the purchaser wants to put on the property. The campus has been used as a district storage facility since it was closed as part of a district school consolidation plan back in 2009.

Stone Middle School sits on the north side of the Clinton Avenue and Governors Drive intersection.

A second property, the former West Huntsville Elementary, was sold in July. The new owner, Brandon Kruse, intends to turn the facility into an "industrial incubator" where budding entrepreneurs can obtain office space and business expertise.
