MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - According to court documents, a Madison County father intentionally caused the death of his infant by strangling him.

The documents filed in Madison County show that Sergino Larenta Richard did "intentionally cause the death of Sergino Larenta Richard-Key Jr." by suffocating with his hands.

The baby was killed on July 11, according to the documents, and he was taken to Madison Hospital early on July 12, according to a report released by the Madison County Sheriff's Office. That's when deputies launched a death investigation.

After the investigation, Richard was charged with capital murder.

The owner of the home where Richard was staying said she is extremely disappointed. Lisa Gant said she gave Richard free room and board so he could support his family.

Gant alleges that the couple were unfit parents; that they showed no emotion, warmth or love towards the baby. She also said that she feels the Department of Human Resources failed in their observation of the child and the parents. DHR was not immediately available for comment.

Richard is being held in the Metro Jail without bond.
