One woman died after a wreck on Interstate 565 on Thursday.
The wreck happened around 7:30 a.m. just west of Research Park Boulevard, near the Madison Boulevard exit.
Police said a vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-565 when the driver lost control and crossed the grass median where it struck a vehicle traveling westbound.
Both drivers sustained serious injuries. HEMSI officials later confirmed that Cheryl Witt died as a result of her injuries at Huntsville Hospital.
Three lanes of eastbound I-565 were closed because of the wreck but have since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
