LACEYS SPRING, AL (WAFF) -

The Lacey's Spring Volunteer Fire Department received some much-needed firefighting equipment Wednesday.

Firehouse Subs donated 15 complete sets of firefighting turnout gear to the department. The equipment is worth more than $31,000.

Firefighters said they only had enough money in their budget to buy one set of gear a year.

"It's Firefighter Safety Number One," said Captain Marion Studer. "Without proper equipment, we can't do our job. We are so thankful to Firehouse to allow us to do this."

The money for the equipment comes from donations collected at local Firehouse Subs locations, as well as from recycling programs. Click here to learn more about the donation program.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
